Commissioned by COPY and in association with Bloc Projects, O U I Performance presents new works by Victoria Gray & Nathan Walker as part of Bloc Projects ongoing series of artists billboards.

In COPY / / DOUBLE, through the lens of a small glass sphere we see the world rendered as a scaled down inversion of itself, held between thumb and index finger. A still image is captured that behaves like glass as we reflect upon what sense there is to be made of a window and chandelier hanging upside down in the frame. A second image of the same scene reveals a closer view yet further distorts perspective, its dense ambiguity serves only to expose another layer of permutations.

These suspensions of gravity, time and belief are inscribed with cinematic subtitled texts that attempt to console an interpretation of the image. As attention reverberates between image and text, a conversation chimes between what is inside and outside of the frame.

The work is a dialogue between O U I Performance and Krzystof Kieslowski's La Double Vie de Veronique.

A performance by Victoria Gray & Nathan Walker at Bloc Projects responding to the Billboards took place in the Bloc Projects Gallery on Friday 18th May 2012.

COPY is a platform for writing in the field of visual art and performance, ran by artists Joanna Loveday and Charlotte Morgan COPY is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
